Dr. David Obenchain was born and raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He attended Idaho State University where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

Upon graduation, he was elected to the national dental honorary society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon and in the same year earned the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Award for demonstrating exemplary aptitude and achievement in oral and maxillofacial surgery. After completion of a hospital-based general practice residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Dr. Obenchain completed four years of oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Obenchain is ADSA board certified in general anesthesia and sedation.
