Dr. Shalmi joined New York Spine & Pain Physicians in 2013 when it merged with New York Pain Consultants. It was in 1999 that Dr. Shalmi co-founded New York Pain Consultants with Dr. Luis Fandos.In 1989, Dr. Shalmi completed his internship in surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine and went on to Harvard University School of Medicine to complete his residency in anesthesia and critical care.

He became interested in pain management during his residency which became his focus during the latter portion of his training. Dr. Shalmi remained at Harvard for fellowship training in Pain Management which he completed in 1997.
