Dr. Karin I. Derfuss grew up in New Jersey. She received her B.S. in Animal Science in 1982 from Cook College at Rutgers University. She received her DVM in 1987 from Tusgkegee University School of Veterinary Medicine. In 2007 she became IVAS certified in veterinary acupuncture, and continues her studies in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, including Chinese herbal therapy & food therapy, through the Chi Institute in Florida and IVAS.

She opened The Branchburg Animal Hospital in 1996. Dr. Derfuss enjoys challenging surgical and medical cases, and will explore all avenues of integrative veterinary medicine to take care of your pet’s medical needs. She was the volunteer veterinarian and a member of the board of trustees for the Plainfield Area Humane Society for 17 years and is passionate about the plight of pit bulls and animal abuse. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her daughter, reading (especially on the beach), skiing, cooking and walking her dogs.
