A native of New Orleans, R. William Junius III, MD graduated Summa Cum Laude from Jesuit High School’s Honors Program. Additionally, he set new Jesuit High School and Louisiana State 5A State records in the javelin. He then matriculated at Tulane University on a track scholarship. During his collegiate career he won numerous honors both in academics and athletics. He was a two time NCAA Championship Qualifier and also qualified for the 1996 Olympic Trials but was unable to compete due to injury which later required surgery. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and also was awarded the Gerald M. Gussack M.D. award for graduating first in his class in Cell and Molecular Biology.
Following college, Dr. Junius attended LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. There he continued throwing the javelin until another injury ended his track and field career. However, after scoring in the 97th percentile on his national board exam he accepted an Orthopedic Surgery Residency position in Fort Worth, Texas.
