Dr. Allen grew up in Warwick, Rhode Island and graduated magna cum laude from Boston University Medical School, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. This was followed by an orthopaedic surgery residency and an orthopaedic trauma surgery fellowship at Brown University, where he earned the Haffenreffer Orthopaedic Research award. He then completed further advanced training through a second fellowship in upper extremity surgery at the Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center.

Dr. Allen is board certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and subspecialty certified in hand surgery. He has special interest in minimally invasive procedures including arthroscopic shoulder surgery for rotator cuff repair, endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery as well as treatment of arthritis, nerve related syndromes, tendon repair, fractures, and sports related injuries of the upper extremity.
